Description

Experience the cycle

Whether amazement, laughter, curiosity or even disgust: earthworms arouse emotions. They manage to arouse enthusiasm for the recycling and upcycling of organic waste. Using the worm compost learning centre, participants experience in an action-oriented way and with all their senses what it means to close a cycle and to be able to actively participate.

Accompanying documents for practical & didactic implementation

Teaching materials have been developed in close collaboration with the FHNW University of Teacher Education for the planning and organisation of NMG and/or ESD lessons. The following documents were trialled and developed as part of the "Worm compost as a place of learning" project and are available free of charge in digital form:

  • Practical & didactic guide for independent implementation of worm composting
  • Teaching unit cycle 1: Compost & circular economy
  • Teaching unit cycle 2: The ideal drinks packaging?
  • Teaching unit cycle 3: How is soil formed?

Please note: The documents are currently only available in German.

Your advantages

  • Reduce your waste and save money on disposal costs
  • Recycle your organic waste effectively by composting
  • Gain high-quality, natural fertiliser for healthier plants
  • Reduce your CO2 emissions and store up to 1 tonne of CO2 per year in your composter
  • Join in - for a better world

Good climate thanks to clay

The breathable clay provides a natural habitat for the worms. In addition, excess water can evaporate through the pores in the clay. This prevents leaching and the valuable nutrients are retained in the worm humus. No extra drain or tap is required. You can find out more about this topic in our composting blog.

Nature and the cycle

In the cosmos of the HOME composter, your shredded waste goes through all the stages of decomposition. Microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi, arthropods and worms form the food web in the composter and are part of this natural process. Watching the transformation of waste and then harvesting the finest crumbly, nutrient-rich humus is a real pleasure. And even more so when the tomatoes on the balcony are bursting with health and fruit afterwards.
